Photos of Mark Hajek's new engine

HALS and SWLS member Mark Hajek of Canyon Lake, Texas completed his scratchbuilt 2-4-0 Baldwin 2 1/2" scale narrow gauge steam engine this weekend and steamed it up for the first time. HALS members can look for Mark and Debbie and their all narrow gauge freight train with the new #14 on the point at the HALS track soon and SWLS members will see them at SWLS meets throughout the year.

Number 14 is rolled out of the erection shop for initial steamup.

10 AM with the glass full the fire is started.

The Wimberley Blanco and Southern

HALS member Nick Edwards and his wife Lynn would like to extend an invitation to all HALS members to attend a "Run Day on the Wimberley, Blanco & Southern Railroad" on Saturday, April 24th, 2004. For those unfamiliar with the WB&S, it is a live steam railroad set in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Currently the railroad has over 10,000 feet of track with a mainline run of 6,500 feet. The WB&S is unique in that it was built to accomodiate both the 7 1/2" gauge equipment in this part of the country and 7 1/4" gauge equipment found in the northeast USA and other parts of the world.

The WB&S will be open to HALS members and their immediate families on April 24th from 9 AM until 6 PM. We encourage members to bring their equipment and enjoy a day of fun and fellowship on the railroad. Please bring your own lunch. Tables and chairs will be set up in the pavillion for members to gather, eat, and enjoy one another's company when not running on the railroad. Ice and soft drinks will be provided by the railroad's "Harvey Girls". Those having any questions should contact Nick Edwards at 512-847-6248. Track Plan | Safety Rules opens in new window.

Here are a couple of photos I took this morning showing the new walkway the county is constructing around the MOW shed area. This will allow visitors to get from the gazebo to the train station without having to walk in the parking lot.

The first photo is taken as if you were walking from the gazebo to the station. The second photo shows county workers installing new fence posts for the walkway.
